Art Contest Celebration and Awards Reception: February 24, 2025
Join us as the winners of the 2025 Colors on Canvas Banner Art Contest are announced.
The 2025 school children’s hand painted banner art is a Mission Hills Business centric art contest for the students at Grant UTK8 School in Mission Hills. Artist in Residence Sarah Ekedal encouraged the school aged artists to paint their favorite Mission Hills businesses on seventy 30″ x 94″ banners.
The contest launched in September with a call for artists and the banners were installed throughout Mission Hills on October 16, 2024.

Judging Process
A panel of fourteen local business owners and community volunteers served as judges to evaluate and rank the banners based on the banner artwork:
- being Mission Hills centric
- having a clear interpretation to the viewer
- exhibiting an artistic quality
- creative use of color
- a finished piece of work
Entry categories included Grant UTK8 school children by grade level. At the Art Contest Celebration on Monday, February 24, 2025, 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the Mission Hills Library, 215 West Washington Street in Mission Hills, you may meet the artists, their teachers and families and learn who most impressed the panel of judges.
