Colors on Canvas 2026 Banner Art Contest Kicked off at Grant TK-8
Completed banners to be installed in December 2025 with an Awards Celebration in the first quarter of 2026
In late August 2025, Grant TK8 art teacher Sarah Ekedal and a classroom of students accepted delivery from Mission Hills Business Improvement District (BID) board of director Sarah Church, owner of Pizza e Birra. With guidance from Ekedal, students in Grant art classes will hand paint 70 banners featuring businesses in the BID.
The banner art will be completed prior to the school’s winter break, collected by the BID and installed on lamp posts throughout Mission Hills. Once installed, a panel of a dozen judges will rank the banners by grade level (TK-8th grade) using pre-established criteria. The artists will be recognized at an awards celebration in the first quarter of 2026.
We’ll remind everyone to “look up” and enjoy the Colors on Canvas hand painted art once they are installed.
Update 12/16/2025: The completed banners have been picked up from Grant TK-8! They are scheduled be to be installed in Mission Hills on December 22, 2025.

The children artists at Grant TK-8 have completed their art and on December 16, 2025, 70 hand-painted banners were picked-up! Mission Hills BID Board Directors, Amra Mulic, of All American Tailor, and Sloane Wormser, of Salon Sloane were on site at the pick-up to greet the children artists and Sarah Ekedal and collect the banners.
The completed banners will be installed throughout Mission Hills on December 22, 2025, so be sure to look-up!
