Parking meter fees were recently doubled in the City of San Diego

The Mission Hills Parking Advisory Committee and Mission Hills BID received the following news alert from the office of Councilmember Stephen Whitburn. News Alert from the Office of Councilmember Stephen Whitburn

San Diego, CA – At the City of San Diego’s Active Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, City Staff is scheduled to propose a Comprehensive Parking Reform Package which will address increased development and growing parking demand in various parts of the City. The plan includes extending parking enforcement to Sundays where historically residents have enjoyed free parking.

Councilmember Stephen Whitburn, the committee chairman, will fight to keep Sunday parking free for neighborhood residents.

“I will fight to keep parking free for residents in their own neighborhood on Sundays.”

Councilmember Whitburn has worked tirelessly to bring down the cost of living for San Diegans by addressing the biggest burden on their budgets: the cost of housing. He believes that bringing down the cost of housing puts more money in people’s pockets. The City’s efforts to bring down the cost of housing directly contribute to increased parking demand.

“Many residents in my district don’t have driveways or garages; they have to park on the street. The City did that on purpose. To make it cheaper to build housing, the City stopped requiring parking. So you have more people parking on the street, especially on Sundays, when more people are home”.

“Fortunately, on Sundays, the meters are free so residents can park there. I will protect those residents.”

The City’s Active Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is scheduled to meet at 1:00 pm today, Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the City Administration Building Council Committee Room on the 12th floor of 202 C Street, San Diego, CA 92101.
