June Happenings in Mission Hills | A Word from our President

By Dixie Hall, President of Mission Hills BID and Owner of DixiePops

I love the month of June. There is a wonderful sense of the whole summer ahead of us.  School days give way to fun and relaxation. And, this year especially, we are in vacation mode – whether it be a staycation or a trip across the country.

Graduation season is upon us, Father’s Day is on June 19, and the first official day of summer begins on June 21 – providing three great reasons to celebrate in Mission Hills. Congratulations to all our graduating students who are moving on to the next phase of their education – as well as to any new dads who are moving on to the next phase of their life. Congratulations aside, I would be remiss if I didn’t make a plea that you consider supporting a Mission Hills business in your celebration plans.

Please join the Mission Hills BID’s quarterly Mixer on June 15, from 5:30 until 7:00 in the evening at L’Atelier, 2655 Reynard Way. There will be lots of art, crafts, and refreshments for your enjoyment. Raffle prizes will be offered in “gift boxes” worth at least $100 each. Try your luck for $10 per ticket. Someone has to win – why not you?

Our Mixer host will be Valentine Vinnay, a French artist, muralist, faux finisher, custom fabric, artisan plaster, since 2000. For several years, Valentine’s art has been offered at retail locations in Mission Hills. We are excited to have officially welcomed her and her business as an Associate Member of the Mission Hills BID during the May meeting of the board of directors.

If you live or work in Mission Hills, we invite you to meet and hear from Valentine at the June 15 Mixer.  Please email MissionHillsBID@gmail.com to let us know you’ll be attending.

Kohta Zaiser Missing Banners and Hardware

And, if you live, work or spend time in Mission Hills I sure hope you enjoyed thebanners that flew on Mission Hills’ lampposts in March and April.  These “hand painted by children” creations were from the BID’s Colors on Canvas 2022 banner art contest.  We extend our sincerest thanks to Kohta Zaiser from Mayor Todd Gloria’s office who was able to locate and deliver to us the four banners and installation hardware that went missing mid- contest “due to a 5G upgrade” by a mobile phone company. Thanks also to business owners, families and art fans who purchased more than fifty banners during the April 27 silent auction and in the days following.  One featuring your favorite business may be among the twenty six banners still available for purchase. Please reach out to MissionHillsBID@gmail.com if you are interested or just curious.
