Proposed Reduced Speeds on West Washington Street

Proposed Reduced Speeds on West Washington Street

West Washington Street from Goldfinch Street to Third Avenue to be affected

The Mission Hills Parking Advisory Committee and Mission Hills BID has been informed of a proposal to reduce traffic speeds on parts of West Washington Street. The proposal is in response to California Assembly Bill 43 (AB43). The Parking Advisory Committee and BID reached out to the office of Councilmember Stephen Whitburn for additional information, which can be found below.

As speed limit changes may affect parking and transportation in the community, the Parking Advisory Committee and BID will continue to provide updates as new information is obtained.

Information from the Office of Councilmember Stephen Whitburn:

This item was presented to the Active Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in February and will likely go to the full City Council this month [March 2025].

According to the staff report:

  • Washington St (Goldfinch St to Third Ave) will have its speed limit lowered.
  • Washington St (India St to Hawk St) will retain its existing speed limit.
  • For all other portions listed in Attachment S, City staff determined, based on an engineering and traffic survey, that the posted speed limits will support the orderly movement of traffic and are considered reasonable and safe under Vehicle Code sections 22357 and 22358.
