About the Art – 4022 Hawk St

This set of utility boxes was the second completed as part of Birds of Mission Hills Wayfinding Art Box project, a project of the Mission Hills Business Improvement District (BID).

Speaking on the inspiration for this art, the artist, Becca Dwyer shares:

For this design, the focus is on the Red-tailed, Red-shouldered, and Cooper’s Hawk, some of the most commonly seen hawks in Southern California. The blue background color mimics how they soar high in the sky looking for their prey, which is scattered around the boxes in the form of bugs, a snake, and a lizard. The California Poppy flower and cacti represent the types of plants these hawks in San Diego live amongst. Hawks are highly adaptable raptors and can live well in urban areas!

Artist Becca Dwyer created the artwork from original sketches to the final product.

This project was supported entirely by Sloane Wormser, owner of Salon SLOANE, which provides a luxurious experience for every guest. Sloane is also an elected member of the Mission Hills Business Improvement District’s board of directors.
